A Running Start student, Cox graduated from Washougal High School in 2001 with both his high school diploma and associate's degree from Clark College. She worked full-time throughout her education, while also working as a research assistant, serving as an active a member of Phi Beta Kappa and as a senator and business manager in student government. In the summer, she held several jobs, including employment at a donut shop, hotel and coffee house. During the school year, she taught, attended classes and worked.
