VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington State University Vancouver's Creative Media and Digital Culture Program is offering a series of free workshops and lectures for fall 2010. "Technology 101" is a hands-on introduction to digital and social media. Each session is limited to 24 participants and is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. All events take place from 12 - 1:15 p.m on campus in the Multimedia classroom building, room 111.

Each workshop begins with a 20-minute presentation by a digital media professional and is followed by a question and answer period. The "Technology 101" series focuses on specific software programs and digital media concepts that are essential tools for students and community members working with digital and social media.

Dene Grigar, Ph.D., director and associate professor of the CMDC program, sees the "Technology 101" workshops as a way to help the 91ԹϺ and Southwest Washington communities become more media literate and tech savvy.

"Students in the CMDC program are not taught software programs as course material. By offering workshops outside of class that focus on software, students can learn these essential skills for their careers. We targeted specific programs like Dreamweaver, and activities like optimizing search engines, that we think students and community members need to know in order to handle digital media effectively," said Grigar.
