Celebrate the “Week of the Young Child” with kids' art at 91ԹϺ

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Child Development Program at Washington State University Vancouver is celebrating the “Week of the Young Child” through April 15 with a display of the children’s work and photo documentation of learning experiences in the first floor gallery in the McClaskey building. The display is free and open to the public.

The “Week of the Young Child” is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of more than 300 local, state and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the “Week of the Young Child” is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The “Week of the Young Child” is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are everyone’s responsibility, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school and in the community—that will promote their development and early learning.

High-quality early childhood education programs (both preschool and kindergarten) provide optimal learning opportunities for children when they support the development of the whole child and provide many different ways for children to learn.

For the 2011 “Week of the Young Child,” the CDP program is focusing its public awareness on children’s learning in five areas: Learning through art, construction, dramatic play, nature play and physical play.
