VANCOUVER, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver will present Rogers Weed, director of the Washington State Department of Commerce at the Chancellor's Seminar Series on Friday, January 15 at 11:45 a.m. in the Firstenburg Student Commons. Weed will address "Achieving Washington's Innovation Economy: Priorities for Growth during Tough Times."

Weed will begin by offering an overview of the economy and current state budget. He'll then offer insight into new Department of Commerce directions and priorities for growing and improving jobs throughout Washington state. He'll cover how the public and private sectors can work together to ensure our state is globally competitive and builds on its strengths to sustain a vibrant economy.

Weed, a former Microsoft executive, was appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire as director of the Department of Commerce in March 2009. Weed works to fulfil the governor's clear mission to retain the jobs and companies that call Washington state home today and attract new ones.

The Chancellor's Seminar Series is open to the public. Tickets are $25 and include the lecture, lunch and parking. For tickets call 360-694-2588 or visit .
