VANCOUVER, Wash. –The Diversity Council and history department at Washington State University Vancouver will present an afternoon of protest music with acclaimed folk musician and social movement historian David Rovics at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Administration building, room 129. The event is free and open to the public.
In the tradition of folk songwriters, Rovics addresses topics of immediate concern. He sings about worldwide struggles including those in Tunisia and New Orleans and champions ordinary people.
Rovics grew up in a family of classical musicians in Wilton, Conn. By the early 90s he was traveling the world as a “professional flat-picking rabble-rouser.” Rovics currently lives in Portland, Ore. and tours regularly on four continents playing songs of social significance. His music has been featured on Democracy Now!, BBC, Al Jazeera and other networks.
