Health care professionals, attend a retreat to reduce stress and compassion fatigue

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Health care professionals are invited to attend a Mindfulness Retreat to reduce stress and compassion fatigue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 8 in the Engineering and Computer Science Building, Room 105 on the Washington State University Vancouver campus. The cost to participate is $50. Register by calling 509-324-7219.

The retreat will include presentations by experts from Legacy Health, Oregon Health & Science University, and the WSU College of Nursing Office of Professional Development.

Participants will gain an understanding of the science behind mindfulness, self-compassion and stress. Mindfulness is an evidence-based intervention to reduce stress and promote well-being in health care professionals and their patients.

Self-compassion is a powerful way to develop a positive mind set and avoid destructive thought patterns. Participants will experience mindful self-compassion practices including breathing, meditation, walking and yoga.

Lunch will be provided. WSNA-approved 6.5 hours of continuing education units are available for nurses.
