VANCOUVER, Wash. – From Twitter to "Saturday Night Live," no media outlet has been safe from the 2016 election. With the changing political and media landscape in mind, experts in journalism, polling and political research will share their perspectives on the election at Washington State University Vancouver during the from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 110.
91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Chancellor Mel Netzhammer will introduce the four panelists and discuss the importance of political engagement on campus and throughout the community. The panelists represent local expertise in politics and journalism, including Michelle Cole, a former journalist at The Oregonian and current researcher at Gallatin Public Affairs; Kaitlin Gillespie, the country government and education reporter for The Columbian, covering rural issues, political campaigns and developments throughout Clark County; John Horvick, a pollster and political director at DHM Research, and serves as the firm’s political commentator; and Jim Moore, a scholar in international affairs and U.S. foreign policy at Pacific University. He is also the director of Tom McCall Center for Policy Innovation. The panel will be moderated by Mark Stephan, an associate professor of political science at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø.
Cole, Gillespie, Horvick and Moore and will share their perspectives on media narratives during the 2016 election race, what it means to be media and politically literate, and the changing landscape of media consumption by citizens. The panel is free and open to the public.
