VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Southwest Washington Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement team from Jason Lee Middle School will represent Washington state at the national competition at Weber State University June 17 through 20 in Ogden, Utah.
The Jason Lee Middle School team includes: Tyler Bacon, James Hess, Samuel Sparkman and Cody Womack. In March the team competed in the SW Washington MESA Center Regional Competition at Washington State University Vancouver where they were chosen to advance to the state competition on May 9 in Redmond, Wash. There, the team won first place in the Prosthetic Arm Challenge. The award recognized distance accuracy, object relocation, design efficiency, presentation and overall performance. In June the team will compete against the top middle and high school students from across the U.S. for their design of a low-cost prosthetic arm for children in developing countries.
