Vancouver, Wash - Washington State University Vancouver library and history department have partnered with the Vancouver Branch of the NAACP and the Clark County Historical Society and Museum to archive and digitize selections of the NAACP's local historical records.

In a signing ceremony at the museum, Dec. 20, the Vancouver NAACP officially donated its archive to the Clark County Historical Society and Museum, who will in turn work with 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø on archiving and digitizing the project.

91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø's role will also include creating an online, digital archive dedicated to the collection, linked from both the museum and NAACP Web sites.

91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø associate professor of history Laurie Mercier and director of information services Leslie Wykoff received an internal 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø grant to help fund the project through June 2007.

"We have this wonderful, valuable collection that the NAACP has carefully preserved," said Mercier. "Now we are able to process that with university expertise to make it more widely available to the public and researchers."
