VANCOUVER, Wash. - Jan Harte, a certified business advisor based at Washington State University Vancouver, was recognized as the 2009 Star Performer for the Washington Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC) at the organization's 2010 Spring Professional Development Conference held in Spokane, Wash. on April 7.
During 2009, Harte worked with 88 small business clients, helping them access more than $2 million in funding, create or retain nine jobs, and realize their dreams for starting or growing their own business.
"Jan's performance in 2009 was exemplary, even more so when considered in light of the tightened credit conditions that existed during the year," said SBDC State Director Brett Rogers. "In addition to her work directly on behalf of her clients, Jan was instrumental in the network's strategic planning efforts and has mentored several other members of the network. I am pleased and proud to have Jan Harte represent the Washington SBDC as the State Star."
Judging from comments made by some of her clients, Harte's approach to business advising has resonated well with them. "I am grateful to...Jan Harte for helping me with the business projections. [She] taught me how to capture and use the business details that I needed to know."
As the 2009 Washington SBDC Network Star Performer, Harte will travel to and receive national recognition at the Association of Small Business Development Centers National Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in September.
Harte is one of 24 Certified Business Advisors in the Washington SBDC. Collectively, in 2009, they helped nearly 2,500 clients access funding in excess of $41 million and create or retain 1,046 jobs.
