VANCOUVER, Wash. – The abstract paintings of Washougal resident Beth Flannigan are on display through Feb. 28 in the Engineering Life Science building at Washington State University Vancouver.
Flannigan is a native of the Pacific Northwest. She is primarily a self-taught artist, but has studied with local artist Susan Spears. Her paintings in the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø exhibit are colorful abstractions that use geometric and organic forms.
Rather than title her work, Flannigan numbers the finished pieces and only signs them on the back or on the side. She says titles will influence the viewers’ perception of the image. She prefers to let the viewer enjoy their individual and personal interpretation of her work. Similarly, she feels that signing her artwork on the front of the painting will distract from the painting itself.
You can see more of Flannigan’s artwork by visiting .
91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø art galleries are open from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Parking is available at parking meters or in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $3. 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205.
