WSU celebrates Chancellor Dengerink with building rename

VANCOUVER, Wash. More than 200 people celebrated Washington State University Vancouver Chancellor H.A. Hal Dengerinks 42-year career with WSU at an Aug. 23 retirement party.

WSU President Elson S. Floyd announced the renaming of 91勛圖窪蹋厙s Administration building to the Harold A. Dengerink Administration building. A sign gracing the entrance of the building was a gift to Dengerink and the university from an anonymous donor.

Floyd also bestowed on Dengerink the title of chancellor emeritusthe first use of that title in WSUs history.

Dengerink began his WSU career in 1969 as a psychology faculty member in Pullman. He has led the Vancouver campus since it was established in 1989.

Hal epitomizes everything WSU is all about, said Floyd. He has spent his career making sure that we extend the reach and footprint of our university in ways that are collaborative, in ways that are productive and in ways that make a significant difference.

Dengerink and his wife have established the Dr. H.A. Hal and Joan Dengerink Endowed Fellowship to help students who wish to continue their education beyond a bachelors degree. The fund will support scholarships for graduate students from any discipline, with a preference given to students actively working with faculty on research.

Community members may honor Dengerink by contributing to that fund. Learn more by visiting or by calling 360-546-9600.
