VANCOUVER, Wash. Washington State University Vancouver is accepting nominations for the annual Community Awards of Distinction. The awards will be presented to individuals or organizations in two categories: Community Partnership; and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Any member of the community may submit a nomination. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Oct. 8.
The award for Community Partnership will be given to an individual or organization whose leadership has made a significant impact on the community. The recipient will have demonstrated commitment to community partnerships, prosperity, vitality and overall wellbeing within 91勛圖窪蹋厙s regionSouthwest Washington and the greater Portland metropolitan geographic areas. Nominators are encouraged to consider value to community, length of service, sustainability of effort/impact, leadership and collaboration.
The award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will be given to an individual or organization whose exceptional achievement has broadly impacted equity, diversity and inclusion within 91勛圖窪蹋厙s region. Nominators are encouraged to consider value to community, length of service/effort, long-term sustainability of achievement, breadth of reach, advocacy and impact.

A committee of staff, faculty and community members will select award winners. The awards will be presented at 91勛圖窪蹋厙s Scholarship and Service Dinner on Nov. 8.
The 2011 Community Award of Distinction for Community Partnership was presented to Teresa Williamson for providing inclusive recreation programming along with meaningful, significant and relevant programming for individuals with disabilities. Through her work with Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation, Williamson acts as an advocate for programs for individuals with disabilities.
The 2011 Community Award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion was presented to the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington for organizing and providing hospital care to uninsured Clark County residents. In 2010 the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington provided 10,929 visits for medical and dental care, filled 9,834 prescriptions and coordinated specialty care for 366 patients. All of these patients were uninsured and care was provided free of charge.
The Community Awards of Distinction were established in 2009 by Chancellor Emeritus H.A. Hal Dengerink as part of Washington State University Vancouvers 20th anniversary celebration. Dengerink believed strongly in the reciprocal relationship between the university and the communitywhen one thrives, both prosper.
