VANCOUVER, WASH. –Avantika Bawa, assistant professor of fine arts at Washington State University Vancouver, won the 2013 award for Early Achievement in Scholarship/Creative Activities from the College of Arts and Sciences. This was a system-wide award encompassing all four campuses that make up Washington State University.
Fourteen individuals received awards and certificates. Bawa, was the only faculty in liberal arts and the only faculty from the Vancouver campus to receive an award for scholarly activities.
Bawa is an artist, curator and academic. She has a master’s of fine arts in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a bachelor’s of fine arts in painting from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India. Since joining 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø in fall 2010, Bawa has had six major solo shows and participated in 10 curated/juried shows. The WSU College of Arts and Sciences was formed in July 2012 by bringing together the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Sciences. It is the largest academic unit in the WSU system and offers degree programs from art history to zoology.
