VANCOUVER, Wash. – A live performance of the radio drama "A Radio Christmas Carol" will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 16. at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main Street, Vancouver, Wash. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring a donation for the Clark County Food Bank.
The performance, now an annual event, is family friendly. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a performance by the Hough Elementary Glee Chorus. At 7 p.m. the Willamette Radio Workshop will perform “A Radio Christmas Carol,” an adapted version of “A Christmas Carol,” directed by Sam A. Mowry.
The performance is offered as part of the Re-Imagined Radio project produced by John Barber, faculty member in 91ԹϺ’s Creative Media and Digital Culture Program.
"Our holiday performance of 'A Radio Christmas Carol' will be entertaining, but it will also remind us that community needs are greater this time of year," said Barber. "This is a classic story, an excellent adaptation into a radio drama, and the performance by the Willamette Radio Workshop the past two years has been well received in the community."
The Willamette Radio Workshop reenacts radio dramas from the golden age of radio in front of live audiences. “A Radio Christmas Carol” will feature voice actors, Foley sound artists and the Holly Jolly Radio Singers.
Each of Barber’s Re-Imagined Radio productions begins with a live re-creation of a historic radio drama. Digital and multimedia components are added to increase opportunities for audience engagement with the narrative.
