Students from the College of Business and the Collegiate DECA chapter at Washington State University Vancouver recently competed at the International Career Development Conference in Utah and the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in California.
Representing the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Collegiate DECA chapter, five business students competed April 21-24 at the International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Business students Shaynne Goodwin, Peter Olsen, Brooke Quick, Bernie Rodriguez and Carrie Shinn competed against more than 900 international university students.
Quick and Olsen competed as a team in the Business Ethics competition. Together, the students performed well enough to advance to the finals—scoring in the top 10 among finalists. Goodwin competed in the Professional Sales competition and also scored within the top 10 after advancing to the finals. Shinn competed in the Retail Management event and Rodriguez participated in the Human Resource Management competition. In order to qualify for the conference, all team members participated in a statewide competition held in Leavenworth, Wash. last February.
Four 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø students from the professional sales certificate program also participated in the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in Chico, Calif. on April 14. Aaron Knoetzel, Kilen Murphy, Shinn and Chad Van Dyke qualified to participate through their performance at the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Sales Competition in December of last year.
The competition consisted of an individual sales call role-play component and a team sales presentation. The student’s combined individual scores resulted in a third place standing at the event, and the team also excelled in the team sales event. The team competed against six other teams from sales programs at Ball State, Chico State, Fresno State, and CSU Fullerton.
The professional sales certificate program at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø prepares performance-ready sales professionals for successful careers and contributions to employers. Through student-driven organizations like DECA, the Professional Sales Certificate program provides students with unique access to internships, scholarships, competition and professional networking.
