91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Diversity Film Festival Offers "Punk's Not Dead"

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver's Diversity Council welcomes the community to the Diversity Film Festival Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. in the Multimedia Classroom building, room 6 for "Punk's Not Dead."

"Punk's Not Dead" traces the origins of the punk movement in the 1970s U.K. and U.S. Punk music inspired a youth movement whose music, art, literature, politics and fashion reflected the angst, social alienation and a growing political awareness of a generation. The film follows the movement as it became the inspiration for later generations of youth and was appropriated and embraced by marketers, media corporations and the general public. Among the bands featured in the film are the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, Black Flag, Rancid, the Pixies, Fugazi, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, L7, Green Day, Sum 41, Tsunami Bomb and Good Charlotte.

The theme for the 2009 Diversity Film Festival is "Living Out Loud! A celebration of diversity through music in film." The films offered capture the passion, pride and power of people asserting their values, identity and resistance through music. The Diversity Film Festival runs through October 1.
