91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø to graduate 975 at 2015 commencement

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington State University Vancouver will graduate 975 students at its 2015 commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. May 9 at Amphitheater Northwest in Ridgefield. Chancellor Mel Netzhammer will preside over the ceremony. Christina Hamilton and Breanna Shores, graduating seniors and senators with the Associated Students of Washington State University Vancouver, will deliver the commencement address.

The event wraps up the university’s year-long 25th-anniversary celebration. 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø was established on May 10, 1989, through a legislative act that also created Washington State University’s urban campuses in Spokane and Tri-Cities.

Background on the Class of 2015

The graduating class of 2015 is represented by 11 doctoral candidates in the areas of education, American studies, anthropology, English, environmental and natural resource sciences, and nursing.

The 118 master’s candidates will receive degrees in anthropology, biology, botany, environmental science, public affairs, zoology, accounting, business administration, strategic communication, education, teaching, computer science, mechanical engineering and nursing.

The remaining 846 bachelor’s candidates will receive degrees in human development, anthropology, biology, criminal justice and criminology, digital technology and culture, earth and environmental sciences, English, environmental science, history, humanities, neuroscience, political science, psychology, public affairs, social sciences, sociology, business administration, hospitality business management, education, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and nursing.

About the Commencement Speakers

Longtime friends, Hamilton and Shores both enrolled at Clark College in their late 20s and transferred as juniors to 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. They campaigned together in 2014 to become student senators and were elected by their fellow students. Hamilton and Shores will both receive bachelor of arts degrees in social science. Both majored in personnel psychology/human resources, minored in psychology and human development, and earned certificates in human services case management and administration. They both plan to work in the human resources field.

Commencement Details

Amphitheater Northwest is located at 17200 NE Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Parking and gates open at 11 a.m. The seating area opens at 11:30 a.m. Concessions will be available. Commencement is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Amphitheater Northwest is a covered outdoor venue. Please be aware that umbrellas and strollers are not allowed in the seating area. Golf cart and wheelchair service will be provided to guests who need assistance. Accommodations will be available for deaf and hearing-impaired guests, with sign-language interpreters in a designated area and amplification devices available at the information booth.
