91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø to Host "Strategies for Winning Grant Proposals"

VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Office of Grant and Research Development at Washington State University in Pullman, in conjunction with the Office of Research at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will present a day of strategies for writing successful grant proposals starting at 8:30 a.m. March 31 in the Multimedia Classroom Building, room 6. Check-in will start at 8 a.m.

The topic for the morning session is "Deep Strategy and Tactics - or, Brilliance is Not Enough." The talk will be presented by Eric Shulenberger, who has a doctorate in biological oceanography, is a California attorney, has worked in the private sector and is currently with the Graduate School at the University of Washington.

Shulenberger will discuss how successful proposals are researched, designed and crafted. He will also discuss the two critical groups of people in the selection and funding of proposals: program managers and reviewers. The session will end with a discussion of the writing process followed by questions from the audience.

The afternoon session is titled "A Conversation with Regional Grant-Giving Foundations." A panel of foundation representatives will discuss how to approach a foundation to determine whether your project is appropriate and the characteristics of a successful proposal. The panel will include representatives from the Paul Allen Family Foundation, the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust and the Meyer Memorial Trust.
