91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø to house Electronic Literature Organization

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington State University Vancouver will be home to the Electronic Literature Organization for the next five years. Referred to as the ELO, this international organization was previously sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

The ELO was founded in 1999 to foster and promote the reading, writing, teaching and understanding of literature as it develops and persists in a changing digital environment. The organization includes writers, artists, teachers, scholars and developers. Its members work at the intersection of art, literature and computation.

As the only scholarly body dedicated solely to the investigation of literature produced for the digital medium, the ELO maintains a presence on six continents. It is led by Dene Grigar, professor and director of the Creative Media & Digital Culture Program at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. She is serving her second term as the organization’s president.

The ELO will be housed within the Creative Media & Digital Culture Program offices on the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø campus and will have a presence in Grigar’s Electronic Literature Lab. Nicholas Schiller, systems and instruction librarian in the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Library, will serve as ELO coordinator. He will be assisted by digital technology and culture major Vanessa Rhodes. Many readings, workshops, and events such as Wikipedia-a-Thons and Traversals will be held on the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø campus during the 2017/18 academic year.
