VANCOUVER, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver's Child Development Kindergarten program is accepting applications for fall 2010. The private, full-day kindergarten is an expansion of the university's successful Child Development Program. Tuition is $715 per month. Financial assistance is available to qualifying families.
The CDP Kindergarten is open to all community members. Children must be five years of age no later than Aug. 31 to attend. The program offers classes Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. Wrap-around child care is available before school beginning at 8 a.m. and after school until 5:30 p.m. at no additional charge.
School will begin Sept. 1 and will follow the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø academic calendar with the exception of winter break. Kindergarten is scheduled to let out for the summer on June 17, 2011.
The goal of the CDP Kindergarten program is to provide an innovative, whole-child, best-practice model for learning that is developmentally, individually and culturally appropriate for children aged five - six. The curriculum will focus on long-term project development and will use themes to provide direction and organization for learning. Children will work in large and small groups. Individual instruction will occur as children work in groups or on individual assignments. Class size is limited to 18.
Funding for the CDP Kindergarten was made possible by a gift from the Tod and Maxine McClaskey Foundation. The newly built classroom space in the McClaskey building on the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø campus offers children's learning areas, a library and a secure entrance and playground. Transportation is the responsibility of the parents. Children need to bring lunch from home, although milk, water and fruit are offered at lunch and snacks are provided in both the morning and late afternoon.
Applications are available at . Interested parents must complete a waiting-list application and pay a $35, non-refundable waiting-list application fee. For more information call Kathy Austin, early childhood specialist for the Child Development Program at 360-546-9722.
