Vancouver, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver has appointed Bola Majekobaje as Assistant Director for Student Diversity.

As the assistant director, Majekobaje's main focus will involve recruitment and retention for 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø's diverse student population, spanning race, age, socio-economics and sexual orientation.

She comes to 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø from Central Washington University, where she served as an admissions counselor, with particular responsibility for outreach to low-income students and students of color.

A Portland native, Majekobaje said she is looking forward to working close to home, but also "staying a part of the really amazing things that are happening in Washington education."

She said she is particularly looking forward to getting to know students at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, and encouraging them to spread the word about the university's programs to their family members. "There's no substitute for stories of personal experience," she said. "It's very powerful."

Majekobaje also served as staff advisor to CWU's black student union, as well as diversity affairs coordinator at University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., where she graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology.

91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø offers 14 bachelor's and nine master's degrees in more than 35 fields of study. The campus is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. For more information, visit .
