91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø New Debate Club Competes on National Level

Vancouver, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver's new speech and debate team competed in their first tournament Nov. 3 and 4 at the 34th annual Lower Columbia College Speech and Debate Tournament in Longview, Wash. They were among more than 75 teams, with 220 students representing 19 schools from California, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Mississippi and Idaho.

Representing 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø were junior Anna Patterson and senior Kristin Guttormsen. Patterson, a psychology and criminal justice student, competed in three individual events, bringing home a finalist award in editorial commentary and a third place award in impromptu speaking.

Both students placed in the top ten speakers for debate, competing against some of the top teams in the nation. Patterson, who formerly competed on the LCC team, placed 4th and Guttormsen, a history and political science student, placed 6th, out of 75 in this first event of the year.

"91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø is now firmly on the map in the speech and debate community," said Kerrie Hughes, team coach.
