91ԹϺ Offers New Clubs for Business Students

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The 2010/2011 Student Business Organization at Washington State University Vancouver had a good year. Events featured outstanding speakers with great attendance. The success came primarily from the outstanding efforts of the student officers of the club: Liska Stokes, president, Tori Cox, Dae Kim, Meghan Pratt, Anna Root and Michael Winston.

The Student Business Organization has grown so big that it being divided into three clubs to specifically address the varied interests of business students. Each of the new clubs is affiliated with a well-recognized national/international organization.

Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

The IMA Student Chapter (IMASC) is a voluntary organization of IMA Student Members enrolled at a recognized institution of higher education, operating under the sponsorship of an IMA Parent Chapter or IMA Regional Council. The IMA offers programs to assist in obtaining the Certified Management Accountant (CMA), an advanced certification that establishes the critical accounting and financial management skills demanded by today’s dynamic businesses, translating into significant career opportunities.

IMA membership provides opportunities for students to associate with business professionals; to see how they live, work and apply their knowledge; and to learn that professionals are seriously devoted to ethical standards and to advancement of their profession. Student members have three objectives:

  1. To introduce business concepts to students planning professional careers
  2. To strengthen the knowledge and commitment of those already pursuing business careers
  3. To demonstrate how IMA members work together for the continued improvement of their professional careers

IMASC WSU-V encompasses all business students, and requires students at any level to be taking at least six credits per semester to join. Upcoming activities include a wide range of opportunities for student involvement in the community, bringing guest speakers to campus, attending a “Meet the Students Dinner” with the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, volunteer opportunities on and off campus, and many others.

Student officers for 2011/2012 are Christopher Conger, president, Teri Garza, John Parks, Colleen Kronebusch and Mindi Primley.
