VANCOUVER, Wash. October is Disability Awareness Month. Washington State University Vancouver will offer a month-long schedule of events. The following are free and open to the public.
Throughout October: Exhibition featuring artists from Artworks, a Collaborative Employment Innovation Program that creates employment opportunities for artists with disabilities, Firstenburg Student Commons.
4 6 p.m. Oct. 5: Screening of award-winning film Fixed: The Science/Fiction of Human Enhancement, Firstenburg Student Commons. Fixed questions commonly held beliefs about disability and normalcy by exploring technologies that promise to change bodies and minds forever. Discussion to follow.
Noon 1 p.m. Oct. 11: Panel discussion featuring artists from Artworks, Firstenburg Student Commons.
4 5:15 p.m. Oct. 27: Equity for Students with Vision Impairments, Dengerink Administration Building, Rooms 129 and 130. Library faculty Nicole Campbell and Sue Phelps will discuss their research findings on the usability of library resources for students with vision impairments. Mike Mello, adaptive technology specialist from the Department of Services for the Blind, will also speak. Discussion to follow.
