VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington
State University Vancouver nursing students and staff will hold their
sixth annual Clark County Sports and Camp Physical Exam Clinic from 2:30
to 6:30 p.m. June 16 at Battle Ground High School. The cost is $20. All
fees support 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø nursing scholarships. Students from all area
middle and high schools are invited to attend. No appointment is
necessary.
In
order to ensure safe participation in activities, physicals are
required by a wide variety of camps, organized sports and organizations
including the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. The exams include an
overview of the student's medical history followed by a head-to-toe
physical examination. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring
their camp physical forms with a parent or guardian's signature.
WSU
Vancouver family nurse practitioner students administer the exams.
These students are licensed RN's working towards their master’s degrees
to become primary care providers. Additional volunteer support comes
from Battle Ground school nurses, coaches, students and staff.
Melody
Rasmor, clinical assistant professor of nursing, started the clinic and
wants people to take advantage of their timely and valuable services.
"It's
good for parents to start thinking ahead because come August, it's
pretty hard to get into your provider for a physical. The exams normally
cost $50 to $100 and are covered by insurance. But many people don't
have insurance, so this is a great opportunity to get a physical exam
done for your child at a low cost," said Rasmor.
More
than 100 people took advantage of the clinic last year with
approximately $1,500 raised for the Dr. Renee Hoeksel Nursing
Scholarship. More than $10,000 has been raised for nursing students
since the first clinic in 2005.
Rasmor
is excited for another great event and the opportunity to work with the
high school volunteers, many of whom are interested in careers in the
health and medical field.
"It's
a good thing and there are tons of kids. We're hoping for a successful
turnout and to continue to educate students about good health," said
Rasmor.
Battle Ground High School is located at 300 West Main Street, Battle Ground, Wash.
