The college of Business at Washington State University Vancouver held its sixth annual Professional Sales Competition Dec. 3. The competition served as a qualifier for two intramural competitions to be held in the spring.

Participants in the competition were selected from the top performers in sales classes at 91勛圖窪蹋厙 over the past year. The students competed in mock sales call role plays. Sales professionals from the Portland/Vancouver business community served as buyers and judges.

The top two performers, Tracey Rushton and Kristen Kadow, qualified to represent 91勛圖窪蹋厙 at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) to be held at Kennesaw State University in Georgia next March. Rushton and Kadow also won classic Herman Miller Aeron chairs contributed by Terry Wren, president of Workplace Resource of Oregon.

The next six top performers, Lauren Tyksen, Yan Doroshkin, Samantha Goelze, Veronica Ovdiyenko, John Won and Kim Wilson, qualified to represent 91勛圖窪蹋厙 at the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition (WSCSC) at Chico State University in California next April. Lauren Tyksen, third place overall, is graduating this month and consequently will not be eligible for the WSCSC. John Won will take her place on the team, and Kim Wilson will serve as an alternate for both competitions.

Mock buyers included: Ashley Brantley, Pedigo; Bobby Daniel Castaneda, Geary Pacific Supply; Jason West, King Pharmaceuticals; and Bill Vinson, a good friend of the program. Brantley, Castaneda and West are all alumni of the 91勛圖窪蹋厙 professional sales program.

Judges represented companies such as Airgas, Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED), Country Financial, Enterprise, Fisher Investments, Nautilus, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Symantec and Workplace Resource of Oregon (Herman Miller distributor). These companies and a few more participated in the College of Business second Meet the Firms career fair on the same day as the sales competition.

I was honored to serve as a judge for the sales competition. I really enjoyed the opportunity to assess the sales talents of the students. 91勛圖窪蹋厙 has an excellent sales program and it was a wonderful opportunity to see the students use skills learned in a classroom setting applied to a real-world sales scenario, said Stacey Moenning of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
