91ԹϺ Takes on the Local Economy at the Chancellor’s Seminar Series

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington State University Vancouver will present “Economic Recovery and Southwest Washington” as the third installment of the annual Chancellor’s Seminar Series at 11:45 a.m. March 4 in the Firstenburg Student Commons.

The lecture will lead off with Scott Bailey, regional economist for the Washington State Employment Security Department. Bailey will offer insight into what makes economic recovery challenging in Southwest Washington.

For the past 20 years Bailey has served as the regional economist for the Employment Security Department’s Labor Market & Economic Analysis Branch covering Southwest Washington. He publishes a monthly newsletter on local economic trends and works closely with economic development and workforce development organizations in the region.

Bailey has done extensive research on wages in the state and is the author of the annual “Washington Wage Report.” He is also a national trainer with the Census Bureau for the Local Employment Dynamics database.

Next, John Nofsinger, associate professor of finance and the Nihoul Faculty Fellow in finance at Washington State University Pullman, will share his research on psychological biases, emotions and societal influences that shape our financial decisions and therefore the economy.

Nofsinger is one of the world’s leading experts in behavioral finance and is a frequent speaker on both this topic and socially responsible finance at investment management conferences, universities and academic conferences.

Nofsinger has often been quoted or appeared in the financial media including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Fortune, Business Week, Smart Money, Money Magazine, Washington Post, Bloomberg, Nightly Business Report (NBR), and CNBC and other media from The Dolans to TheStreet.com. He periodically writes on his blog called “Mind on My Money” at the Psychology Today blog site.
