VANCOUVER, Wash. – A team of students from the professional sales program at Washington State University Vancouver competed Saturday in the 2011 Western States Collegiate Sales Competition at California State University, Chico. 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø won second place overall. Chico State won first place.
91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ꿉۪s WSCSC team included Yan Doroshkin, Samantha Goelze, Veronika Ovdiyenko, and John Won. Yan Doroshkin won first place for the individual competition. 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø won second place in the team competition.
This was the first year 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø competed at the WSCSC. It was the sixth year for coach, Ron Pimentel, clinical assistant professor of marketing and associate director of the professional sales program. Pimentel attended in previous years with other schools.
A total of seven teams competed, representing 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, Ball State, Chico State, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State. Some schools sent more than one team.
The competition consisted of two parts. The first part was individual sales presentation role plays, with the students representing ADP payroll services. There were two rounds. The top six from the first round competed again in the final round. The second part of the competition was a team-selling situation, with the team selling TEKsystems technical professional recruiting services.
Judging was done by members of the professional sales industry from sponsoring companies: ADP, TEKsystems, Pepsico, First Command, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Federated Insurance and BMC Software.
This was the seventh year of the competition, which started at Sacramento State and spent a few years at Arizona State Polytechnic before settling at Chico State.
