VANCOUVER, Wash. – Students of the Washington State University Vancouver Creative Media and Digital Culture program are hosting two events beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 in downtown Vancouver.
The first, “A Radio Christmas Carol,” is a live radio performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” by the Willamette Radio Workshop under the direction of Sam A. Mowry. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance begins at 7 p.m. at the Kiggins Theatre at 1011 Main Street, Vancouver, Wash. Before the show, the Hough School Glee Singers, directed by Anson L. Service, and the Holly Jolly Singers will perform and lead the audience in caroling. The event is open to the public and free with a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Clark County Food Bank.
After the live radio performance, guests are invited next door to the Nouspace Gallery & Media Lounge for “Touch, Move, Feel” an exhibit of interactive art, poetry and sound installations by students and faculty of the CMDC program. Guests will also have the opportunity preview a digital story about the renewal of plant and animal life on Mount St. Helens that CMDC students created for the Mount St. Helens Science & Learning Center at Coldwater Creek.
The live radio performance is part of “Re-Imagined Radio,” a collaboration led by John Barber, CMDC faculty member, The Willamette Radio Workshop and Kiggins Theatre. The Willamette Radio Workshop recreates radio drama from the Golden Age of radio, using only voice actors and Foley sound effects, live, in front of their audiences.
