The Cougar Pride statue at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø is a generous gift from Gary Schneidmiller, ’71. This statue honors the cherished tradition of WSU’s live cougar mascot, which spanned over fifty years from 1927 to 1978. It is dedicated to Gary Schneidmiller's parents, Manuel ('41, WSC) and Gladys Schneidmiller (WSU Honorary 2015), reflecting the family’s enduring connection to the university.
The statue is the fourth of five installations systemwide and is located in the Mount St. Helens corridor near the Life Sciences Building. It offers a place where students, faculty, staff and visitors can relax and connect with the WSU spirit while enjoying views of Mount St. Helens.
Gary Schneidmiller hopes that "Cougars everywhere rekindle and reconnect with that special WSU feeling when they visit Butch."
